American Born Ceramics

"American Born Ceramics" is an exploration of American/Chinese food, what Chinese immigrants eat, and how Chinese immigrants feed America. As a daughter of Chinese restaurant owners, Shiya’s personal history is intricately linked to the long history of Chinese immigrants working in the food industry. Using porcelain, Shiya created handbuilt and painted sculptures that tell the stories of Chinese foods that have played an important role in their lives.
